Josh Caterer is the lead singer, lead guitarist, and principal songwriter best known for founding the Smoking Popes in 1991. The band signed to Capitol in the mid?1990s and gained wider attention when their single "Need You Around" appeared on the Clueless soundtrack; Caterer later left the band after a spiritual conversion, pursued gospel and solo projects, and rejoined Smoking Popes for reunions and subsequent albums. He also leads church music projects and records solo/blues material in addition to performing with the Popes.
