Josh Joplin

Josh Joplin is an accomplished singer-songwriter that Blender calls “a master of zippy melodies and wrenching, thought-provoking lyrics.” His bent for funny, quirky narratives between songs and his sincere performances have earned him a loyal and dedicated following over the years. Paste Magazine summed it up as “Woody Guthrie’s gift of storytelling, a swagger in the name of Elvis Costello but a tune all his own.” Josh Joplin’s collaboration with former Talking Head, Jerry Harrison led to his hit single Camera One and opened the door to appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and The Late-Late Show. Camera One became a featured video on MTV, VH1, and Fuse, and was used in the hit show Scrubs, among many others. Joplin’s songs have also been used in Dawson’s Creek, Party Of Five, and Felicity. Joplin has toured extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia and has played with Indigo Girls, Travis, Neil Finn, Ole 97’s, Matthew Sweet, Paul Kelly, A Fine Frenzy, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Cordero, and Billy Bragg. He was also a featured songwriter, with Shawn Colvin, for Turner South’s series on songwriters and has appeared a couple of times on NPR's nationally syndicated radio show, Mountain Stage. In 2008, Joplin recorded and mixed a record that would never be released after which he headed in a totally new direction and formed the "folk" collective, Among The Oak & Ash whose music Vanity Fare called "Gorgeous!" and the Huffington Post said "gives a much needed kick to a genre that, so often, has been reduced to little more than a ‘Kumbaya’ punch line." After releasing two albums on Verve and his own label, 9th Grade, Josh took some time off to spend with his family. While on hiatus from performing himself, he was asked if he'd ever consider managing artists. This eventually led to the opening of JoplinManagement which represented Bluegrass fav's, Cadillac Sky and The David Mayfield Parade and as well as others. But after only two years, Joplin closed his office, saying of the experience, "I felt like a travel agent for an exotic plant species that can only survive under a very special rare heat lamp". Today Josh Joplin writes songs, stories for both adults and children, paints, and is still living happily in New York City with his wife and daughter. He is working on a record and a book.
