Formed in 1981 by José Ángel Medina Soto, Patrulla 81 became one of the best-known duranguense/regional Mexican acts with crossover success in the United States. Their album Quiéreme Más reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums in March 2009, and several singles topped regional Mexican charts. After founder José Ángel Medina's death in November 2020, the band has continued under the leadership of his son, José Ángel Medina Jr.
