René Avila is a Chicago-based bassist, bandleader and long-time host of WDCB’s radio program “The Mambo Inn.” He leads multiple ensembles (from trio to nine-piece) including an Afro-Cuban jazz quintet and the charanga orchestra Charangueo, and regularly performs at Chicago venues and festivals such as Thalia Hall, Navy Pier, Old Town School of Folk Music and Dorian’s.
