How does change really happen? What is revolutionary change? Are there relationships between political revolution, social revolution and musical revolution?
Revolutions 1 explores these questions through the music and politics of 1796, in the aftermath of the French Revolution. In fact, post-revolutionary Paris was also home to a revolutionary time in the development of the bow. Violinist and violin expert Stefan Hersh will explain how changes in bow design led to changes in music that helped to usher in the heightened emotional range of the Romantic era that followed.
A program of selected works by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven will bring these revolutionary changes to life.
