Caldwell Woods Wellness Center is a year?round, multi?purpose “wellness and welcome center” within the Forest Preserves of Cook County, created by transforming the 1962 warming shelter that once served the toboggan slides. The redesigned facility features flexible gathering space, a warming kitchen, restrooms, and a patio with firepit, and it supports nature?focused programs like yoga and community wellness activities along the North Branch Trail. The center’s updated space was celebrated upon reopening on February 19, 2026, enhancing this Northwest Side gateway to the preserves near Edgebrook.

CTA bus 86 (Narragansett/Ridgeland) serves Milwaukee & Devon/Imlay, a short walk to the center; Pace Pulse Milwaukee Line also has a station at Milwaukee & Devon; Metra’s Edgebrook station (Milwaukee District North Line) is about 1–1.5 miles east on Devon.
