About

The Genesee Theatre is a restored 1927 movie palace and concert hall in downtown Waukegan presenting touring concerts, comedy, Broadway-style shows, and community events. After a major restoration, it reopened in 2004 with an expanded balcony and stage; the main auditorium now seats 2,403. Its ornate Spanish Renaissance interior and grand lobby anchor Waukegan’s walkable downtown arts corridor near restaurants and bars.

Street parking on Genesee St. is complimentary after 5:00 pm; covered garage parking is available at Waukegan Lot C (225 N County St) for $10, with additional surface lots G, H, I, K, and L. Valet service is offered for most events (approach via Sheridan Rd; $15 cash).

Public transit

The Waukegan Metra Station on the Union Pacific North Line is a short walk from the theatre; Pace Bus provides daily service to Downtown Waukegan.
